About Eastleigh Running Club
Eastleigh Running club was established way back in 1988. From the outset the club managed to combine sharp competitiveness with a great social atmosphere – something we strive to maintain today. Runners of all all types and ability have always been welcome, from the ‘once or twice a week’ keep-fit runner, to the international athlete representing Team-GB (we actually have!).
There has never been a hierarchy of ability within Eastleigh Running Club – everybody is equal, and all are invited to mix socially.
CLUB HISTORY
Paul Dibden, who is now our Club President, started the club in 1988 with just four runners, meeting at a local cricket club. As membership grew the club moved to Crestwood College, where membership grew over the years to more than 200.
In 2010 the move was made to Fleming Park Leisure Centre (now Places for People Leisure). In the three years that followed membership continued to grow, reaching over 300 runners.
The first public race we organised was the Chandler’s Ford 10k, which grew in popularity over the years. Eventually, the increased volume of traffic in the area forced us to make the move to Marwell Zoo. For many years we organised the very popular Marwell 10k race.
In 2012 we moved on from Marwell and took over the prestigious B&Q Eastleigh 10k Road Race. We continue to support this event, now known as the Hendy 10k.
SOCIAL EVENTS
The club organises social events throughout the year. An outline of upcoming events will be published here, and all the details will be published in our weekly email newsletter, the Running Moon.
